Advent and Christmas

Why is this beautiful Season important for us?

First of all, it is essential that we look beyond the religious aspect of the season. Jesus was a teacher and a way-shower and his story is our story, too. Every time we contemplate his birth, we experience the ‘Light in the Darkness’.

Let me explain!

We are all Light-bearers. Our Soul, the essence of who we are, is a Spark of the Divine that is immortal. When we are born, a new ‘Light’ arrives into the world. When you look at a newborn child, you can literally see the ‘glow’ about them.

The world is a ‘dark’ place. Our fears  and limited ideas of who we are make it so.

After we are born, shortly (sadly), we forget our ‘light nature’ and become part of the ‘darkness’. We accept it to be our reality and go about our life without remembering that we are of the Light.

So, Christmas time is very important because it reminds us, every year, that we are Light that meant to shine in the darkness. We matter. All of us matter because each Light we carry is unique. Every time we remember our true nature, we bring Light into our dark world. We not only uplift ourselves but we also uplift others.

During the time of Advent ( four weeks before Christmas) and Christmas, we are asked to start remembering our true nature and the qualities we seek that is of the Divine Presence: Hope, Joy, Peace and Love.

Spending time in silent contemplation or reading a short spiritually infused passage support us to awaken to our inner Light and to remember who we truly are.

From Darkness to Light

ADVENT and the 12 Days of Christmas

38-day Contemplation Series

Introduction

From the 30th of November 2025 to 6th of January (Epiphany) 2026 we will be sharing contemplative exercises daily to brighten the holiday season for you

As we are moving into the darkest days and the end of 2025, you may want to take the time to reflect. Rev Maggie Alterman says that by contemplating during these dark days we strengthen our inner-light and so bring it into the world. The light we shine is the beacon of hope for us all: it reminds us that we have enough inner resources to endure temporary darkness.

Every morning, we will share a thought and a task that you can contemplate, pray, and meditate on. We are convinced that these small acts of turning inside will support you to let go of the old and what does not support you any more, so you can bring forth the qualities that brighten your life.

You can read these short messages on our website, on Facebook and Instagram.

ON A PERSONAL NOTE

Personally, I find that it is important to have a focus or an intention behind any endeavour.

Spending time with the intention to care for my mental health and spiritual well-being is always an effort. At the same time it can be fun! Reading short, warm, and enlightening messages and affirmations, doing a short task or listening to a piece of music take only a few minutes a day but it makes  a gigantic difference in my life. During these few minutes a day, I peek out of the darkness, the world full of woe, into the Light: into the Peace, Joy, Love and Warmth of the Divine Presence.

I am going to walk this Christmas journey contemplating on the Divine Light and enjoying the sense of Peace, Joy and Love that it comes with.

An in-depth Podcast

A great discussion on Unity and its teaching offered by Rev Kudlik.

In this podcast you will hear about what Unity is and isn’t, What is true sense of happiness, the importance of forgiveness and meditation in practical terms, and about the 5-step process from Bitterness to Wholeness. (the discussion was generated by AI in an amazingly professional manner, except that it assumed that I was a male person 🙂

Gudi Padwa/Chaitra Sukhladi

The Hindu New Year

It is believed that Lord Brahma, the creator of the universe, created the world on this day. Therefore, this day is considered auspicious and is celebrated as the beginning of a new era.

Another day to have fun and celebrate. 🙂 The Hindues celebrate Sukhladi or Gudi Padwa (this celebration has many names) on the 9th of April with gifts and decorations.

Every celebratory event is an opportunity to cheer up and have fun. The world is full of drama and gloom. When I am invited to celebrate, give thanks, be marry and joyous, I take the opportunity.

Let’s celebrate that we are healthy, we live in abundance of opportunities, we are free to make decisions for ourselves, and we are loved (at least by one person, yourself). Let’s make it a day of joy, fun, laughter, even if it is difficult because of circumstances. One laughter is more than none.  One smile is more than none. Remembering of one nice thing is better than none. Making a day count by peeping out of the drama and the craze, will make your day. I guarantee that.

More information on Chaitra Sukhladi

In 2024, the date of Chaitra Sukhladi is April 9. Chaitra Sukhladi is celebrated with much fervour and enthusiasm in Maharashtra and Karnataka. On this day, people wake up early and take a ritualistic bath. They then decorate their homes with rangolis and flowers. People also offer prayers to Lord Brahma and perform puja rituals. They wear new clothes and exchange sweets and gifts with family and friends.

In Maharashtra, people prepare a special dish called Shrikhand-Puri on this day. In Karnataka, people prepare a dish called Holige, which is made of jaggery and lentils. The festive spirit is high during Chaitra Sukhladi, and people come together to celebrate this day with great zeal.
